LASIK Surgery
LASIK surgery is the usually the best option available for people who need corrective eye surgery since many vision issues can be solved by the surgery. Additionally, more and more discoveries for the use of LASIK are being made every day.
Although a laser is used for the LASIK procedure it isn’t the first medical procedure to use lasers. Before LASIK there was PRK and another procedure that used a laser to help people correct vision impairments.
PRK is still being performed today just not as often as the LASIK procedure. Patients prefer LASIK surgery because it has historically carried high success rates and patients are able to see clearly a couple of days after the surgery. That’s not to say that LASIK comes without risks.
The risks which are associated with LASIK are very minimal and rarely happen for the reason that most people come out on the other side with 20/20 vision or better, which was the goal in the first place.
LASIK Surgery for the Masses
As the LASIK procedure continues to grow in popularity the price of the surgery will continue go down as well. It’s almost as if it’s proportional if you think about it. The more people that have the procedure the less money people have to pay to have their eyes fixed.
I’m not usually one that writes about how bad the economy is or how people today don’t have money but it is worth mentioning that more people could have LASIK surgery if they earned a little more money.
If people made more money, not only could they have the procedure but they could also help family members get LASIK to help improve their eyes and quality of life as well.
LASIK Surgeons Can’t Control Surgery Costs as Much as They’d Like
When you go to your first meeting to talk about LASIK surgery the first person you usually speak with is the doctor’s receptionist. After you’re done with the receptionist and the other person behind the desk, you’ll then see a nurse who will escort you into the back of the office to the doctor’s waiting room.
The reason I mention this is because people wonder why LASIK costs so much. Nurses earn more money than receptionists but the health care costs for employees can add up very quickly for a small business.
Everyone doesn’t want to pay a lot of money for goods and services which include LASIK surgery, but we should try to understand that the doctor has overhead and has to pay the receptionist and the nurse as well as pay rent on the building that houses the office.
