San Diego LASIK

San Diego LASIK surgery is one of the most popular and one of the most performed refractive eye surgery procedures used today to correct vision impairments.  Why do you think LASIK is preferred over the other surgeries available?

LASIK is preferred over other vision correction surgeries because the procedure has proven to be successful for most patients.  And as a result it seems that everyone is singing the praises of LASIK as a viable option for vision repair.

LASIK is an acronym for the phrase ‘laser-assisted in situ Keratomileusis’.  I guess the scientists figured that a name like Keratomileusis would only scare people away from mentioning it so they devised the acronym.  San Diego LASIK doctors also make sure to explain to their patients what the name means.

One of the main reasons why the use of LASIK surgery has become so widespread is because of the lack of pain reported by patients as well as being to have good vision the day after surgery.  A lot of patients also report being able to see better immediately after the surgery as well.

Many San Diego LASIK Patients Report a Lack of Pain During Surgery

While it is true that a lot of patients report a lack of pain, people should also realize that surgery of any kind is still considered surgery no matter how you look at it.  You’re going under the knife when you have San Diego LASIK surgery just as surely as having any other surgery performed on you.

The difference with LASIK surgery is that a laser is used to make the actual repair to the eye.  LASIK patients are luckier than other surgery patients because the procedure is not overly life threatening.

A San Diego LASIK operation entails the surgeon cutting the cornea in your eye in order to create a little flap that he or she then moves out of the way in order to access the corneal tissue with the laser to make the repair.

Expectations of Having LASIK Surgery in San Diego

When the doctor completes the process of reshaping your cornea with the laser he closes the little flap to allow the healing process to being.  When the cornea is properly reshaped you’ll be able to see well because your eye will be able to properly focus the light entering your eyes.

San Diego LASIK works for both farsighted and nearsighted patients.  People who are considered to be near sighted will have their cornea reshaped because it’s usually too steep and doesn’t reflect the light properly.  Farsighted people require a steeper cornea so the doctor reshapes it accordingly.

LASIK equipment can also be used to help people with astigmatism by reshaping the cornea in order to make it smooth.

As you can see having San Diego LASIK surgery isn’t as scary as some people can make it out to be.  And with the success rate so high it’s a good idea to at least get a consultation and do a little research.
